Hello, my name is Wayne Lawton and I'm an amateur photographer.
I enjoy taking photos of just about anything that catches my eye, textures, shadows, angles, etc.
I really enjoy hiking around the San Francisco Bay Area and tend to drag my camera along on these excursions.
Most of these photos were taken with a Canon Rebel XTI
although there are also a few shots from various point and shoot cameras that I own.
Feel free to comment or offer advice, (Or criticism, I can take it),
and with any luck, as this blog progresses, so will my photo taking abilities.

Pics From Here & There...

It's been a while.
The weather has sucked and I've just had a lot of other things going on that have kept me from getting out to shoot.
Well, enough with the excuses, here are some photos I've taken over the past month or so.

The first couple of photos were taken up at Point Reyes.
I went up to see if I could get some shots of some whales but had no luck in that department.
I did find an interesting piece of driftwood on the beach.
Actually, it was pretty much a whole tree that had been wave tossed and worn.

This one was taken later that same day near Bodega Bay off Hwy 1.
I wish the water had been a little clearer and calmer but I guess it came out OK.

These next photos were taken out at Stinson Beach at sunset.
I like the subtle color in the wet sand at the bottom of the second photo.

This shot was taken from Fairview Ave in San Leandro overlooking the bay.
It was quite a sunset that evening.
Some rather intense colors.

The next series of shots were taken at a small park overlooking the water between Oakland and Alameda.
There were a lot of interesting things to shoot here.
The first two pictures are of some sort of reflecting pool on the water.
They were shot from above looking through the installation down into the water.
The coloring in the black and white shot almost looks like you are looking up into the sky.

This is a close up of an anchor at the park.
The way the iron is rusting almost gives it a wood grain like quality.

This is a shot of a statue of Pocahontas.
The statue is rather interesting in that it shows the duality of her life.
Parts of her are clothed in traditional American Indian clothing
and the rest of her is clothed in English garb.

This is just a shot of some brickwork at the park and I liked the way the shadows were falling across it.

A couple of pictures of some of the flowers planted around the park.

And a wayward blossom laying on the pavement.

This is a shot of my favorite tree up on the ridge line overlooking Lake Chabot.

This was looking the other direction from the ridge line over the bay.
The sunset was a little boring, so I thought I'd try something a little different.
I opened up the shutter for a three second exposure
and then swung the camera in an arc capturing the lights of San Leandro.

Last but not least were some aesthetically placed concrete balls out in a business park off of Hegenberger Rd. In Oakland.

Well, that's all for this post.
See you again soon.
